energia alpina is pleased to announce the realisation of the SedrunSolar alpine photovoltaic project in collaboration with aventron. This project marks a significant step towards a more sustainable energy future and utilises the unique advantages of alpine altitudes for solar energy production.

Now that the building permit has been granted without objections and a suitable partner with experience in renewable energy has been found in aventron, the municipal council of Tujetsch has given the green light for the realisation of SedrunSolar.

The project, which will be realised at an altitude of over 2000 metres in the Scharinas / Cuolm Val area in the municipality of Tujetsch GR, comprises the construction of a state-of-the-art photovoltaic plant with an installed capacity of approx. 19.3 megawatts (MW). The approx. 5,700 solar panels will supply energy for approx. 6,500 households. Annual production is 29 GWh, 47% of which is generated in winter.

energia alpina and aventron are founding their own public limited company as equal partners for the realisation and operation of the plant, with energia alpina having the casting vote. Ciril Deplazes, Managing Director of energia alpina, is delighted: ‘Thanks to our dedicated planning team and the great support of the municipality of Tujetsch and the local population, we have managed to keep to the ambitious schedule for the Solar Express. We are starting construction work immediately so that we can feed the required 10% of the system output into the grid by the end of 2025.’ Claudio Deplazes, Chairman of the Board of Directors of energia alpina, adds: ‘We are proud to be realising this ambitious project together with aventron. Our partnership combines energia alpina's expertise in the field of alpine energy technologies with aventron's extensive experience in the field of renewable energies. This project underlines the commitment of the municipality of Tujetsch to a sustainable future.’

Eric Wagner, CEO of aventron, adds: ‘aventron owns and operates around 300 renewable energy plants across Europe with a total capacity of over 780 MW. The cooperation with energia alpina supports us in our strategy to expand our power plant portfolio in Switzerland. We are also able to realise this project thanks to our three strategic energy supply company shareholders Primeo Energie, Stadtwerk Winterthur and ewb. We are convinced that this project will serve as a model for other Alpine photovoltaic projects.’
Construction work will begin in mid-August 2024 and the PV system will be commissioned in stages until 2028. The project team will continue to work closely with the authorities, environmental organisations and the local population to ensure that all environmental and social aspects are taken into account.
