A photovoltaic plant with a capacity of 6.5 MW, the second largest in Switzerland, is being built on the roof of the ALDI SUISSE branch in Perlen (LU) this autumn.

With an area of 45,000 m2 - equivalent to around six football pitches - and an installed capacity of 6,460 kilowatts peak, the solar plant is over 1,000 times larger than an average solar plant on a single-family home, making it one of the largest of its kind in Switzerland. ALDI SUISSE is providing the infrastructure for it, thus enabling the future use of the extremely large roof for electricity production. In future, the plant will provide sustainably produced electricity for 2000 households.

Around a quarter of the electricity produced will be consumed on site. The remaining three quarters will be marketed through a long-term power purchase agreement with Primeo Energie AG. Securing the sale of electricity through a long-term power purchase agreement is innovative in the field of solar energy and pioneering for the future beyond fixed feed-in tariffs.

This is an important milestone for aventron. With the implementation of the project, aventron is consolidating its position as the leading operator of solar plants in Switzerland. Solar energy is very complementary to aventron's existing wind and hydropower portfolio and strengthens the diversification of production overall.

The Bargas project is one of the first of its kind and pioneering for the further course of the European energy transition.
